My web browser crashed while I was chatting with a guest. How can I recover?

If your web browser crashes during an active chat, you can recover by getting signed into the webclient again and then heading to the Chat History area.  From there, you can transfer the chat back to yourself.

Finding the Chat History interface

After you're signed back into the webclient, look for the Chat History item in your left sidebar.  The sidebar may be expanded or collapsed.

Finding the chat you want to recover

Now, you need to locate the chat you were having when your browser crashed. Often, it will be the top-most chat in the list of chats in Chat History. Look for a chat with you as the operator and with no duration (because the chat has not officially ended yet).

If you do not spot it, you will need to adjust your current Chat History search to locate it. You can use the date selectors or use the search reset X, which will default your results to the most recent week. You can also search by transcript keyword, which can be handy if you remember a fairly unique word used in the recent chat.

Looking at Chat History to identify the most recent chat

This chat has no duration and so has not ended yet.  The operator name is also visible.  If needed, change the current search to the default (range:week) by using the X circled in purple, or use other date selectors to identify the most current chats.

Select the chat and reveal the transfer button

You can use the "VIEW" button to select the chat. The transcript will open in the bottom pane of the interface.  Look for a row of chat management buttons above the transcript.  The button with a left arrow and a right arrow is for transferring the chat.  This option is only available when the chat is still open and has not yet ended.

View the chat and look for the row of chat management buttons to transfer the chat.

Use the View button to open the chat transcript and reveal the chat management buttons, including the transfer button.

Transfer the chat

After you select the "transfer chat to a queue or user" button, use the dialog to select User (assuming you want to transfer the chat to yourself).  You could instead transfer it to a queue, but if you want to receive the transfer, be sure to pick a queue you are staffing.

Navigate back to the Chats area to receive your transfer

After you send the transfer, you will navigate back to the Chats area of the webclient in order to resume working on the recovered chat.

What if I do not use the webclient to answer chats?

No worries. If you staff from Pidgin, Adium, or any other XMPP app or mobile client, you can use the built-in chat management link to transfer the chat to yourself.  More info...
